ReplyDeleteSomeone is trying to sell this pattern on Copious http://copious.com/listings/crochet-pattern-for-angry-birds-beanie
ReplyDeletejust to let you know!
(btw, not lindbertslegacy, that's an old blog lol)
thank you for telling me! I'm checking into it. Boy, what an irritant and a compliment all rolled up into one! :D
DeleteThe beak is a bit confusing. Says to repeat rows 2-6, but wouldnt we have to do row 1 as well? Do we sew them together?
ReplyDeleteThe bottom is slightly smaller so that the top beak tip curls over slightly. This helps with the beak shaping as well. And yes, they do get sewn together, thank you for pointing that out! If you prefer, you can make the top and bottom the same size. It will turn out just fine. :)
ReplyDeleteMaking this for my son for his birthday in October!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGoin well with the pattern I just don't have a clue how to crochet the black bits on the eyes. Do I join the black to the eyes straight away or sew it on when done? Dunno how to start the black at all tbh :-( thanks a million for the pattern it's great, yours stupidly,
ReplyDeleteAnna
Annie, what I did was sew them on when done. Another way to do it would be to start with black and for the second round use white to outline. Hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kendra that's a great help :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat weight yarn do I use? Is it worsted, and how much is needed for the child's size? Thanks. This hat is too cute.
ReplyDeleteThis is made using worsted weight yarn. I can't honestly say exactly how much is used...about a baseball sized amount when balled up (how's that for ambiguity?) Less than one skein is the most accurate I can be here, I'm very sorry. I hope it works out for you.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much.
ReplyDeleteHi, I love this pattern, but the feathers have me stumped, can really tell from picture how they should look and I have done everything but the feathers
ReplyDeleteThe feathers are tubes, closed on the tip and flaring out very slightly as it grows to the base. When finished they should resemble the fingers of a glove. Is this clear? Let me know if you need more clarification.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little stumped with the beak. I created the 2 parts. Now what? Whip stitch together then sew on? I'm not that good at sewing things together or on. This is truly a first for me.
ReplyDeleteYes, Cindy K, that's exactly right. Sew them together from the base up so the top of the beak curls over the bottom slightly (because it's a row longer), then sew the whole shebang onto the hat :) I'm sure you'll do fine. If you make a mistake and the parts don't line up to your liking, simply undo and try again! I've ripped out my fair share of stitches, let me tell you!
DeleteHow do you adjust this for a adult size can you email me? Angiekunst@att.net
ReplyDeleteAngie, just do every step. Adjustments are made withing the directions to make it smaller. Hope this helps!
DeleteThis is super adorable, my boys can't wait for me to try making them one. Thanks for sharing. I'll let you know how mine turns out!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tamara! I'd love to hear how it turns out for you. Let me know if there are any problems and I'll try to help!
ReplyDeleteI am making this for my son Joseph who just turned 3. Thank you Kendra for sharing! I have been crocheting for a couple of months now, and am always looking for new, cute ideas :) now my 6 year old daughter wants a pink "chicky-chicky" ( as we call them in my house). I Maya's well gear up and do another in a different color for my18 month old son..starting to get pretty chilly here in NY. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteKendra,
ReplyDeletethe question as to how much yarn it takes...I made three small adult hats out of one skein.
I saw your pattern being sold here.....http://www.craftsy.com/patterns/search?category=All&patternSearchText=angry+birds
ReplyDeleteThank you for letting me know. I'll look into getting it taken down.

ReplyDeleteThe first chain on the hook counts as the first sc. Hope you get it worked out in time!
DeleteThank you so much for sharing this pattern I can't wait to make my 18yr old son & my 12 yr old grandson this adorable hat.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary! I'm sure they'll love them.
ReplyDeleteKendra, can I download this to my computer?
ReplyDeleteYou may download the pattern, you may print the pattern, you nay make asany of these hats as you like. You may not sell the pattern or claim it as your own. Thank you for asking first!
ReplyDeleteKendra, Have you thought about linking your patterns to Ravelry? It's another great site for yarn lovers and crafters. This pattern is super cute and I am going to be making this hat for my son and my neighbor's 2 boys for Christmas. Thanks for a great creation!
ReplyDeleteI love ravelry, but never submitted any patterns, the designers there are all fabulous and I never felt I was up to their standards. Thank you for the compliment! Maybe I will... :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for this pattern, it is absolutely adorable! I'm currently making 2 hats and can't wait till they are finished :-)
ReplyDeleteJust finished this for my almost 2 yr old some.. It is so cute. worked up so quick. This was my first crocheting project (other then a flower to learn) and I think I am hooked. Thanks for the cute pattern.
ReplyDelete"Hooked" on crocheting, I love it :-) I'm glad it worked out so well for you.
DeleteFound your hat pattern thru a friend and i just want to let you know that i love it! i have made over twenty different hats since jan using your basic hat pattern. when i posted pics of the hats on my wall i also included the link to this page.
ReplyDeletethanks again for this pattern - i will be using it for a long time to come :)
Thank you so much for the compliments! Glad you like it :-)
DeleteKendra,
ReplyDeleteI am such a visual person. Can you send me a larger picture of the hat. Want to make it for my 6 year old great grandson for Christmas but would like to see the stitches close up.
I'm so sorry, Barb, but this is the only picture I have of the hat and it is long gone. Is there a specific feature you need to see? I'd be glad to recreate it for you or send you a link to somewhere that has a closeup picture of the stitch you need to see.
ReplyDeleteI have a son who loves earflap hats and he also loves Angry Birds! Thx so much for sharing this! I cant wait to make one for him!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like it! Have fun!
DeleteI am making this for a seriously ill little boy who loves Angry Birds! Thank you for sharing the pattern! The only trouble I've had is with the feathers. Mine do not look like fingers on a glove! :/ I often struggle with crochet directions because I am left handed and things seem backwards to me. However, your instructions are easy to follow!
ReplyDeleteHm, I'm not sure what the problem is without more details. Another way to make the feathers would be bottom up instead of top down (as instructions are written). Make a tube 8 stitches around and decrease by 2 stitches every 3 rows until you have 4 stitches left. fasten off and weave the end through the last 4 stitches and pull tight like a drawstring bag and tie off before you hide the end inside. For the smaller feather, start with a tube 6 stitches around.
DeleteThat sounds a little easier. What I did was to make red feathers like the black eyebrows and stitched them on to the top. They aren't tubes, but it worked! My teenage son now wants one for himself! Thanks for our help! I am going to post a picture on my facebook page Left2crochet.
ReplyDeleteThat was going to be my next suggestion if the tubes didn't want to work out for you this time! I saw the pic on your facebook page, it looks great!
DeleteThanks! and that should read *your help* up there in my second comment!
ReplyDeleteHi! I realize you first posted the pattern 10 years ago and I've made it several times. Recently I wanted to use the basic hat but when I got to the earflaps the pattern only shows one side. Where do I start the 2nd side? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I'll have to edit this lol!
DeleteThe child sized hat should have 15 stitches between the ear flaps. The adult size should have 21 stitches between ear flaps.
Thanks! That saves a lot of hit or miss!
