Marilyn Monroe graph

My adult niece and I were chatting one day and I mentioned my respect for Marilyn Monroe as an actress.  Overcoming a rough childhood, changing from factory girl to pinup/actress/singer, bombshell...Wow!  You go, Norma Jeane!
"I LOVE Marilyn Monroe!" she exclaimed.
Since Christmas was coming up, what else could I do?  I made up this graph and crocheted her a blanket.  I used a flesh colored yarn for the skin tone.  Unfortunately, I can't find any of the photos I took of the finished product.  If I find any later I'll add them to this post!

I used 2 dc per graph square with an H hook to get a large throw (about 4 x 6).  If you'd like to make one of your own please email kendrascrochet@gmail.com with "Marilynblue" in the subject line.  Any questions should be put n the body of the email.  If you'd like to see your finished photo featured here or on my Facebook page,  please email it to me when you're done.  You're also welcome to post it to my Facebook page yourself. If you post to other social media, please tag #KendrasCrochetedCreations and credit me for the design.

Breast Cancer Awareness Ribbon

I know this one is very plain, but it is halfway through October (breast cancer awareness month) and I haven't posted one yet!

The pink ribbon is one of the most recognized symbols of silent support. We all know someone who has been touched by cancer (of some kind or another), either someone who has been diagnosed, or someone who is a mutual friend of someone who has been.

Breast cancer awareness ribbons outwardly show our moral support for those who have been diagnosed with, are receiving treatment for, and are survivors of breast cancer. We wear these ribbons for our mothers, friends and lovers, and sisters.

Ladies, remember to do your self-exams and get your medical checkups!  There are people who love you and YOU should be one of them!!!

If you would like this free graph (graph only, no written instructions), please email me at kendrascrochet@gmail.com with "Pink Ribbon" in the subject line.  If you use an H hook and 2 dc per graph square this should come out about twin mattress sized.  Adding a few rows of border will make it cover a twin bed nicely with a bit of overhang. If you'd like a smaller throw, use a J hook and 1 sc per graph square, but add 15 rows to the top and bottom, and add 5 rows to each side.

If you'd like me to make one for you I can do that too!  Email me for pricing.

If you have any questions or comments, you can either email me or leave a comment at the bottom of the page.

Mermaid graph for sale

It wasn't till Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Mermaid" that these mythical sea creatures became known as helpful and benevolent. The legends and stories before them  depicted them as evil, luring sailors into dangerous waters like Greek sirens, or dragging them underwater to their deaths. Personally, I prefer the Disney version.

I know I say all the patterns I post are free, but this isn't a pattern post!  I mean, it is, but the pattern itself isn't posted.  This is a gridless image of the graph I made.  I think she's adorable!  The pdf with gridlines and line numbers is $4 (no written pattern) and I can adjust the size to make any sized afghan you prefer.  Email me for info regarding payment details if you'd like to make this little cutie for yourself. Or, I'd love to make one for you, email me at kendrascrochet@gmail.com for pricing.

Rubik's cube throw instructions

Materials needed: H hook, around 1 skein each Red Heart yellow, orange, red, blue, white, green (shades of your choice) and around 2 skeins black, yarn needle

Gauge: 7 dc and 4 rows = 2 inches

Finished size: appx 44" x 60 "

Instructions:
Make 9 of each color:
With block color, chain 23. Dc in 3rd chain from hook. Dc in each chain to end.  (22 dc)
2. Ch 2, turn. Dc in each dc to end.
Repeat row 2 until you have a square (I made 9 rows, but I could have made 10 because if you look closely, the color blocks aren't perfectly square). Fasten off at the end of last row.

Turn, Attach black to corner with sl st. ch 3. 2 more dc in same corner.  Dc in each dc across, putting 5 dc in corner stitch.  Turn work 90° to work along side of block. Put 1 dc around the top row's dc, then put 2 dc around he end of each row till you get to the bottom row.  Put 1 dc in bottom row's dc. Put 5 dc in corner. Turn to work across bottom of block.  Dc in each dc to end. 5 dc in last stitch, turn to work along edge. Repeat first edge , but put 2 dc in beginning corner. Join with sl st, fasten off.

With black, sew blocks together.  You may decide to mix up your blocks like a scrambled Rubik's cube. If you do this, I'd love a photo!  When all blocks are sew together, go around outside edge with black using dc (5 in the corners!) just as you did for the color blocks.

I also sewed a sheet to the back of mine because I made it for my son and he dislikes afghans or "blankets with holes" so I wanted to make him more comfortable.

personalized baby blanket

I do love designing personalized afghans for my customers.  This one is for the baby of a Detroit Tigers fan.  I wasn't sure about the stripes, but they turned out cuter on the corners than horizontally.  Unfortunately, the local Walmart, where I get my yarn, didn't have Caron in Navy blue or a more subdued shade of orange so I'm actually making it in Caron's Ocean and a bright, almost day-glo orange.  I hope they don't mind! I would have waited, but the baby was born yesterday and I was asked to get it done ASAP!  What would you do in this position?

Personalized afghans

Personalized afghans seem to be gaining popularity.  I have several graphs for other special requested names stored on my computer. Any name can be graphed out, any color scheme used.  I'm working on one right now for "Zoey" where the O is a heart and flowers are along the bottom. (finished and photographed as seen above)  Have you done personalized afghans or other items?
