Vikings football graph

ask for Vikings ball
I've attracted a lot of attention over the years with my Green Bay packer afghan (found here).  Eventually a Green Bay fan asked me if I could make this one,  with the football as the main focus.  Fast forward to last week and I was asked if I could use that one to make a Vikings version!  This is what I came up with.  I'm wondering if I should try again with a larger font to take up more space in the football (if you looked at the Packers one, it takes up most of the ball!) or if it's better this way where it looks like a printed logo.  What do you think?   Let me know!

Also, I'm not 100% happy with the V.  I tried and tried to make it looks better but this is honestly the best I could do (without remaking the whole thing bigger - which, as I said, is definitely an option).

Another thing that sort of bothers me is the background color.   I couldn't find a purple that I thought looked suitable for the Vikings so I came as close as I could thinking that if anyone made it they'd have to decide what color yarn to pick up anyway so it would be ok.  Unfortunately, I'm not sure my computer is color calibrated anymore (or maybe my tablet and phone aren't) because sometimes when I look at it, it's red!

Back to the point: if you want the pdf of this free graph, go to kendrascrochetedcreations.com and you can save or print right from your browser.  I'd use an H hook and 2 dc per graph square to make a twin sized afghan, or you can add 40  graph squares on each end (to make it 200 across) and 30 to the top and bottom (to make it 150) and use a J hook and 1 sc per graph square to get a 5 x 6 ft throw instead.

If you make one, please share a photo with me!  If you post it to social media, please credit me with the design.  If you'd like me to make you one, I can do that too! Just email me at kendra@kendrascrochetedcreations.com for pricing.

Green Bay Packers version 2

I've had a lot of interest on my Green Bay Packers graph found here but one customer wated to try something different after she had tackled and conquered that pattern.  This was the idea she had and this was how it turned out.  Use an H hook and 2 dc per graph square to get a twin-mattress top sized throw (without border) or increase the rows by 15 on each side and 5 on top and bottom to crochet with a J hook order to get a 4 x 5 ft throw.  If you'd like the pdf version on this graph, email me at kendrascrochet@gmail.com with "Green bay version 2" in the subject line.  I'd suggest working this pattern from the short side because it has text in it and it will cut down on the color changes and save time and frustration!  Let me know if you like it in the comments below, or you're welcome to use the share buttons below this post, but please credit me with the design.

WIP progress...or not...

I have been productively working on my WIPs...until now! I had a rather large order that I had to start working on (though the deadline isn't until Christmas) so my death star throw pillow has gone unembellished and my knit shawl is wadded up in a bunch at the bottom of my projects tote. I've filled the part of the order that has been paid for and started a "pay it forward" gift. Throughout the year I will be mailing hand made gifts to people with the direction that they pay it forward and give something to somebody else. I've made one Green Bay hat and started an autism awareness scarf. The scarf is done in sc (you can see it  here)so is taking longer than any other scarf I've made. All those color changes slow things down, too. I'm playing with the idea of making individual puzzle pieces and sewing then together, but I don't like that kind of work as well.
So, now that the interruptions are out of the way, or will be as soon as I finish that scarf, I can get back to my WIP pile. But will I?

Green bay packers afghan pattern

Since this is a licensed product I can't sell the pattern but I'm too proud of it to keep it to myself!
I used 2 DC for each graph square, a size H hook, and red heart yarn in hunter green (7 skeins), gold (2 skeins), brown (2 skeins),and white (2 skeins). I also used 1 skein black for seams on the football in another version. I used a new length of yarn for each color block instead of carrying them across the work. (see  this post) I measured the length of yarn it took to make 2 DC, and multiplied it by the number of squares in the section in question. Then I cut the yarn and balled it up to keep it neat. While working, I laid my work on the floor and moved myself from one side to the other when I changed direction. This throw measured 4-1/2 x 6-1/2 ft without the border (as graphed) and about 5 x 7 with the border (as in picture).
the graph will not print out properly so if you want a printable copy, go to kendrascrochetedcreations.com I now have a paid word chart available. Email me for details.   See here for version 2.  I don't always get notifications if you post your email address in the comments so to ensure you receive the graph (as well as to keep your privacy), please email me your request. If you need a visual about how I made this afghan, check out my graduation afghan progress photos starting here . it is made the same way and had pictures of each day's progress.
